NAHJ REQUESTS RESPONSE FROM CH 4, STATION PREPARING AN APOLOGY

The cranky gun owner heard around the blog world.

Or just a slow news day. The temporary 'suspension' of Rebecca Aguilar is now rolling through several blog sites.

While most sites are being critical of her actions, few question the role of the editor or other staff at KDFW Fox 4. Until now. The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) is now requesting an inquiry into her "suspension" and a written response from KDFW FOX 4 and also questioning the 'reporting' tactics of KDFW Fox 4 in general ( ala Becky Oliver reporting ).

Meanwhile sources at KDFW FOX 4 say the station has received a flood of calls and is preparing an apology to viewers for the incident for some of the "tactics" used in the story. Look for the apology to air tonight at the 9 p.m. news or during the Viewer's Voice segment on Friday nights. As for Rebecca, the station isn't saying anything except that it is only a suspension.

Just FYI, I was one of the people who complained. The way the reporter treated that man-70 years old and trying to cope with an increasingly violent area of town-was not professional. She cornered him, accused him on camera of being 'trigger happy' and made him cry. Imagine being 70 year old, trying to defend your only livelihood and having to shoot people twice out of the 42 times you have had to call the police. This wasn't an open store, it was surrounded by an 8 foot fence. There's no way anyone "accidentally" climbs such a fence. The reporter was out of line. And people saw her as someone writing out her own agenda on air. News is supposed to be about facts, not opinion. Save those for the editorial. And as for her losing her job, if it happens, maybe someone who has respect for victims rather than criminals will get a position.

Too much speculation and really.. too much on this. People please get a life. She was aggressive -- and she got slapped and I am sure she learned her lesson.

She will be back on the air next week and we will forget about this. She is not the problem, but the tactics she used. Those are the same tactics Becky Oliver uses and countless other reporters as demanded by editors to get ratings. And it works. Ch 4 ratings are up.

I support Rebecca. I don't support all her actions, but people make mistakes. Life moves on. Nothing to see.
